WOD attire: How to dress for a fitness session in 2026
Partager
Are you new to fitness or looking to dress better for your workouts? The outfit you wear during training influences comfort, performance, and sometimes even motivation. Here's what you need to know in 2026.
What is a WOD?
WOD stands for Workout of the Day. It's a term used in functional fitness communities to refer to the day's session, often intense, timed, with varied movements (squats, burpees, kettlebell, jump rope…). If you're aiming for Hyrox, our Hyrox France 2026 beginner's guide will give you everything you need to know.
Criteria for good fitness attire
1. Freedom of movement
A WOD involves a sequence of movements in all planes: on the floor, standing, jumping, pulling. Your outfit must follow you everywhere without hindering you.
2. Breathability
You're going to sweat. That's the point. Organic cotton for casual use, technical materials for very intense sessions. Oversized organic cotton is an excellent compromise.
3. Durability
Sports attire that goes into the wash 3 to 5 times a week must last. Look at the fabric weight (220g minimum), reinforced seams, and print quality.
4. Style
We often go straight from the session to the street. Training in a t-shirt you like helps you get to the gym.
The ideal WOD outfit in 2026
The top
An oversized organic cotton t-shirt — loose-fitting to not restrict movement, breathable, durable. To understand everything about this format, read: Oversized t-shirt: why it's the ideal gym outfit. Our WOD.LOL t-shirts: 240g organic cotton, cut designed for training, with designs that speak to everyone who has experienced a tough session.
The bottom
Sports shorts with an inner pocket, compression leggings, or light joggers. For women, high-waisted leggings have become essential.
The shoes
For mixed training, a versatile training shoe is ideal. No running shoes for strength training — the soft sole is dangerous.
Essential accessories
- A water bottle of at least 750ml
- Wrist straps for heavy movements
- A lifting belt for maximum strength
- High socks for jump ropes
Mistakes to avoid
- ❌ T-shirt too short that rides up with every movement
- ❌ Running shoes for weightlifting
- ❌ Outfit too tight if you're not comfortable
- ❌ Fabric too light that doesn't hold up to repeated washing
In summary
A good fitness outfit is one that disappears — you forget about it once you're dressed because it doesn't bother you, it breathes, it lasts. And if it also has a punchline that makes you smile, even better.
