Working out in CrossFit/Hyrox during a heatwave: the guide to not burning out this summer
Partager
34°C on the thermometer and a Hyrox session or a WOD with holes on the program: summer puts your body to the test. Heat is not just a weather detail; it completely changes the game for your performance and recovery. Here's how to keep progressing without ending up in a sorry state on the floor mat.
Why Heat Changes Everything
Above 25-28°C, your body has to manage two jobs at once: producing effort AND cooling down. Your heart beats faster for no reason, your sweating explodes, and your heart rate can climb by 10 to 20 beats per minute for the same effort. The result: what felt like an easy WOD in April becomes a wall in July.
Good Habits Before Your Session
Choose the Right Time Slot
Early morning or late evening: that's when the gym or park is most bearable. If you only have midday available, aim for shade, an air-conditioned indoor space, or voluntarily lower the intensity.
Hydrate Before, Not Just During
Drinking during exercise is not enough. Start hydrating 1 to 2 hours before, with water and a little salt if the session exceeds 45 minutes.
During Exercise: Adjust, Don't Force It
- Lower your loads by 10 to 15% on hot days — it's not an admission of weakness, it's management.
- Extend rest periods between intervals to allow your heart rate to come down.
- Listen to warning signs: dizziness, chills despite the heat, cessation of sweating — stop immediately.
Your Outfit Makes a Real Difference
In summer, the material and cut matter almost as much as your training program. A fabric that sticks to the skin prevents sweat evaporation — meaning your body has a harder time cooling down. Opt for loose-fitting and breathable cuts: that's exactly what we had in mind with our Summer Co. 2026 collection, featuring boxy tanks and light cotton crop tops, designed to move without sticking to your skin between stations.

In Summary
Heat is not an excuse to skip sessions, but a parameter to integrate like any other. Change your schedule, adapt your loads, hydrate beforehand, and choose breathable attire. Your summer fitness will be more effective — and much less painful.
