Training as a team: why doing CrossFit and Hyrox together changes everything

CrossFit and Hyrox are often presented as individual sports — everyone has their own time, their own score. And yet, the people who keep progressing the longest are almost always the ones who train surrounded by others. Here's why the group really changes the game.

Motivation doesn't last long on its own

In the first month, individual motivation is enough. By month six, the one still keeping up the pace is often the one with a training partner — someone who notices when they're missing and pushes them to come even on lazy days.

The pull effect, literally

Training next to someone stronger naturally pulls your level up. Conversely, encouraging someone less experienced reinforces your own technique — explaining a movement forces you to really understand it.

Hyrox and CrossFit formats built for the group

Hyrox competitions offer doubles and relay formats, and CrossFit has its team WODs. These formats exist because shared effort really changes the experience — you handle a tough station better knowing your partner is counting on you. If you're considering your first doubles event, our article on women and Hyrox covers exactly that group dynamic pushing more and more people to take the plunge.

How to build your training group

  • Find a partner at a similar level, or slightly above — the ideal gap pushes without discouraging.
  • Set regular sessions, not just "we'll try to motivate each other" — a fixed slot lasts much better over time.
  • Take part in box events: throwdowns and local competitions create shared memories that bond people far more than a regular session.
  • Don't underestimate the post-WOD: the chats after the session, sometimes more than the session itself, create real attachment to a box.

What we remember from group events

Competitions like the one in our Mayenne Throwdown recap show it clearly: what stays with you is almost never the final time, it's the team that got through the station together.

And to head out as a team in the same outfit (and the same spirit), our WOD.LOL collection is waiting.
